The West Goalpara College is situated in a green landscape and charming natural environment. The catchment area is inhabited by hardworking farming population in the rural setup and most of them are rural poor. Though the periphery of this college extends to the Western part of Goalpara district; the students hail from beyond the district and even outside from the state specially West Bengal and Meghalaya. The pull factors of this college, the students are looking for, are facilities of studying Science up to degree level, free Hostel accommodation for Boys and Girls, special facilities for Girls, comparatively low rate Admission fees, facilities for special education, well equipped Language Lab. and highly motivated scholarly faculties.
The establishment of the college in this area was a positive step towards fulfillment of social demands for Higher Education with facilities for Arts & Science education and Post Graduate classes (Education, Assamese and Political Science under KKHSOU).
The college has a glorious history of 35 years of contribution to the society. The college was established on 21st August, 1981. At the initiative and dedication of a galaxy of great personalities who had gallant roles in mobilizing financial resources, material resources, human resourses and good will of the people of the locality. The college was brought under deficit Grant-in-Aid system with effect from 11th January, 1996 and was provincialized on 1st December, 2005 and thereafter included UGC 2(f) and 12(B) recognition in 2008. The Gauhati University accorded permanent affiliation to the college from the session 2003 – 04. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded ‘Grade B’ in 2005 to the college and accordingly the college has been developing its academic activities and infrastructure facilities as per suggestions of Peer Team, NAAC.
The college has created curricular and co-curricular facilities befitting centre of learning and research and innovative practices, Language Lab., Smart Classroom, ICT enabled Classroom, Computerized Central Library, Cafeteria, Rest House, Auditorium, Day Care Centre for Women / Girls, Health Care Unit, Gym Hall, Sports Complex, Laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Geography, Psychology and Education.
Students, teachers and researchers are utilizing library resources besides Book Bank facilities for poor students. Classrooms are vibrating with provision for interactive learning, remedial teaching, tutorials, class seminars, workshops, group discussions, field studies, project works, home assignments, dissertations and best innovative practices.
The teaching learning process is enriched by guest faculties from universities, other colleges and expert researchers as well as resource persons from fields. Different sub-committees have been constituted for enhancement of discipline, curricular excellence, co-curricular proficiency, empowerment of girls students, financial and academic support to the poor students and beneficial incentives to the minority BPL students.
Students’ Union is very active in maintaining discipline and also in contributing to holistic development of the college. The governing body is very strong with a positive resolution to develop the college keeping a vision of a high standard learning institution. The college is vibrant with all preparedness for inspection and assessment by NAAC in the current academic session.
All stakeholders including Teachers, Students, Guardians, Alumni and Public are appealed for ensuring their co operation to make this institution a centre of excellence.
